Two-membrane cavity optomechanics: non-linear dynamics

چکیده

Abstract We study the non-linear dynamics of a multimode optomechanical system constituted driven high-finesse Fabry–Pérot cavity containing two vibrating dielectric membranes. The analytical allows to derive full and consistent description displacement detection by probe beam in regime, enabling faithful membrane displacements well above usual sensing limit corresponding linewidth. In weak driving regime where is pre-synchronized situation, unexcited oscillator has small, synchronized component at frequency excited one; both large small amplitude resonator motions are transduced nontrivial way response optical beam. find perfect agreement between experimental results, numerical simulations, an approach based on slowly-varying equations.

Dispersive optomechanics: a membrane inside a cavity

We present the results of theoretical and experimental studies of dispersively coupled (or ‘membrane in the middle’) optomechanical systems. We calculate the linear optical properties of a high finesse cavity containing a thin dielectric membrane. We focus on the cavity’s transmission, reflection and finesse as a function of the membrane’s position along the cavity axis and as a function of its...

Deformable two-dimensional photonic crystal slab for cavity optomechanics.

We have designed photonic crystal suspended membranes with optimized optical and mechanical properties for cavity optomechanics. Such resonators sustain vibration modes in the megahertz range with quality factors of a few thousand. Thanks to a two-dimensional square lattice of holes, their reflectivity at normal incidence at 1064 nm reaches values as high as 95%. These two features, combined wi...

Classical Analysis of Cavity Optomechanics

We present a classical analysis of a mechanical oscillator subject to the radiation pressure force due to light circulating inside a driven optical cavity. Our analysis is related to the problem of cooling an optomechanical setup to degrees near the ground state of mechanical motion according to quantum theory. Achieving this could provide an insight into quantum phenomena occurring in macro-sc...

Cavity optomechanics mediated by a quantum two-level system

Coupling electromagnetic waves in a cavity and mechanical vibrations via the radiation pressure of photons is a promising platform for investigations of quantum-mechanical properties of motion. A drawback is that the effect of one photon tends to be tiny, and hence one of the pressing challenges is to substantially increase the interaction strength. A novel scenario is to introduce into the set...

Cavity Optomechanics at Millikelvin Temperatures

The field of cavity optomechanics, which concerns the coupling of a mechanical object’s motion to the electromagnetic field of a high finesse cavity, allows for exquisitely sensitive measurements of mechanical motion, from large-scale gravitational wave detection to microscale accelerometers. Moreover, it provides a potential means to control and engineer the state of a macroscopic mechanical o...
